Synopsis

This textbook covers the material of the course Telecommunication Electronics, which belongs to the narrower scientific field of Information and Communication Technologies within the Module for Telecommunication Traffic and Networks at the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Engineering, University of Belgrade. The main objective of the textbook is to introduce students to the emerging field of the Internet of Things (IoT) through practical work with modern hardware and software development platforms and tools.

The textbook is structured to first familiarize students with the basic concepts of sensors, actuators, and measurement systems, primarily in the context of IoT applications. It then explores different possibilities for implementing IoT devices based on modern processors, as well as their networking and integration with cloud platforms. The characteristics of typical processors for IoT devices are presented in detail, along with explanations of wireless techniques for networking sensors and actuators, and comparisons of different protocols for connecting to cloud services. In the final part, the textbook describes fundamental software platforms for cloud application development. Special attention is devoted to simpler educational platforms suitable for academic use, particularly for prototyping and student projects.
